BUKOWSKI

leaves me cold - his writing seems gratuitously crass - grim and misogynistic, ruining what could be compelling stories. Maybe I should give him another go but seeing as Bono sings his praises (not literally, thank god) Bukowski's best consigned to the back of the shelf until I need a present for a teenage boy.

Saturday

SIGNET RINGS

for those without a family crest....'A' is my favourite.

Thursday

GREAT DAY

for outfits, Ellie
post-exam - 'mum doing the gardening' in the best possible way and Julia post-library in tartan and fur.

Tuesday

MORNING WELL SPENT

watching mums crying about their slutty fourteen year old daughters, funny how it was only daughters and no sons.

Monday

BLACK AND GOLD

This isn't all of them and I still want more. Not such a fan of the silver, its primary virtue (apart from telling the time), is the noise it makes when you turn the front piece.

MORRISSEY

Can't quite imagine still wearing this tshirt when I'm seventy but I really really hope I will. Might look like a bit of a psycho with this on my back at the library but I think most would agree that the hordes of shitty leavers hoodys freshers insist on wearing are infinitely more offensive.

NEW WORLD ORDER?

This appeared the night of the election, so optimistic. I wondered whether the triangle was some sort of allusion to the status of the government in a hung parliament, perhaps a bit far fetched. Anarchic Bristolian hippies are the most likely culprits.

Friday

BLEACHED

hair can be so great, although sadly I'm relatively sure greatness like this (Billy Idol) is the exception not the rule.
I have repeatedly tried to bleach the ends of my hair so they look dip-dyed but keep ending up with what looks like tastefully grown out highlights. It's very frustrating.

Monday

XXL

Arrived this morning, it looks red but it's more burgundy and thankfully not shiny in real life. It's XXL so I'm quietly hoping a real fatty had it before me.

ROBERT CAPA

Best known for photographing the Spanish Civil War and co-founding the first International Photography Agency, the work of Robert Capa has been overshadowed by questions of authenticity and staging. I feel this is an irrelevance, surely all photography is staged. However, the debate surrounding his iconic image of the Spanish Civil War Fallen Soldier is particularly interesting especially when considered in the context of the morality of war photography. If you're interested, Susan Sontag writes about it in her essay Regarding the Pain of Others.

Turns out Capa was also a babe.

Sunday

CRUCIFIXES

This kind of haul is what I always hope to find in charity shops. Has yet to happen but I'm keeping my fingers crossed

NAILS

Bucking the trend for matt pastels? Disappointingly it makes me feel about seven, especially considering my hands look like those of a young boy. Not big on drag so returning to slate grey.

SIM SIMMA

Saw two white men wearing leather caps driving their convertible beamer around in the sun blasting Beenie Man, few sights have ever made me happier. Want one

Saturday

WORKOUTS

My brother tried to make me appreciate Reebok trainers at a young age, he has been wearing Reebok workouts since he was about fourteen (now 29), for me it's only just sunk in. Shame how on girls they look awful with anything but black jeans.

HAPPY MUSIC

RUCKSACKS

Have been looking for the ideal backpack after leaving a beloved one - full of most of my favourite things- on a Megabus, lucky cleaner. Not so sure about leather ones, every body seems to have these earthy tanned numbers and they smell.

Can't decide whether these are too masculine, especially combined with a collection of distinctly asexual shoes. The bottom one is old Swedish army and available really cheap. My friend has a theory that girls should try and avoid wearing clothes they like boys to wear, I agree to an extent but don't have nearly enough self control to step away from the oversized coats and army surplus.

THESE, on the other hand

Those medieval worshippers were so preoccupied by gore and Christ's 6,000 wounds, sculptors would stick string onto Christ's limbs to depict bulging veins and tried to make the stigmata blood as 3D as possible. Grim

Friday

CHRIST CHILD

No matter how nice I make my desk or how many executive highlighters I buy, medieval depictions of Christ Child remain hideously dull.

Thursday

ORTHOPEDIC SHOES

Orthopedic shoes are great. The ones below are almost perfect, although ideally they wouldn't be quite so high.

Friday

GREAT HAIR

In an ideal world, all hair would look like this

Thursday

SWOON

This jumper is hideous. Mo' money no taste? Love the picture though despite irritating pixellation. How great if clothes like this were still acceptable rapper-attire, if I saw him I imagine the desire to slip into my fictional collection of slinky Moschino and sidle up to him would be uncontrollable. (Just as well he's dead?)
