YET MORE HANDS

I saw this old Jil Sander campaign the other day and it led me onto a whole new hands post. It is not a weird fetish thing they're just really great.

I especially like how clean Mr Hold Fast's nails are, I wasn't expecting that.

SHINY SHINY

I bought a reversible jacket yesterday. The sleeves are ridiculously shiny but I can't help but love them because they're stitched to the softest pale grey leather/suede.

I would like to wear it with this kind of make up face decoration:

recreating the look with stick on diamonte I bought in poundland. I think I'll have to wait for the right occassion, which is sad because I dressed up very badly for a space-themed Bestival a few years ago and this combination would have been great.

If I don't use the diamonte to give myself a terrible rash, I might try THIS OUT with black boot converse.

MARK WALLINGER

Mark Wallinger's 'Construction Site', 2011.

This is a still from a Mark Wallinger film soon to be on show at the Baltic Centre in Gateshead. 'Construction Site' is an hour long recording of three scaffolders creating and dismantling this structure. The temporary structure reminds me of the grids artists have traditionally used to accurately scale images - the similarity is pleasing because Wallinger's largely conceptual work is the antithesis grid-painted works.

Jubilee weekend is meant to be all about red white and blue but for some reason I was just seeing grey and yellow - deep I know. First the cars on Colville Road, then the Gucci necklace on mustard velvet, then my feet.


   

SUMMER SHADES

New shades! I wanted a new pair for summer which were subtler than my current collection but it turns out subtle wasn't to be.

RICHARD NICOLL EYELINER

I tried to recreate this square eyeliner from the Richard Nicoll SS12 show yesterday. It took a steady hand and lots of cotton buds, I think Ivania Carpo of Love Aesthetics blog had the right idea using black tape instead.

BEDROOM WALLS - PETER ARMSTRONG

Unframed images stuck on walls makes me think of teenage girls. My sister covered one huge wall in adverts from Vogue and posters of Eminem and during my teens I slept-over in endless rooms plastered with photos of weekends spent drinking smirnoff ice with camel blues shoved expertly down push-up bras.

Artist Peter Armstrong's Brixton house is a much more savoury version of this impulse to decorate. A work in progress, his walls clearly benefit from a distinct sense of colour and a coherent aesthetic.

In my current room I have managed to restrict my blue-tacking to this small patch by the mirror, let's see how long it lasts.

HANDS

Hands hands hands.

Helmut Lang has done some fantastic campaign shots full stop but these two focussed on the hands are particularly wonderful. During the Renaissance masters had large workshops and relied upon several assistants to complete their epic works. The exception was always the hands which Masters painted themselves because they were considered to be the most challenging.

TENDER IS THE NIGHT

I wish I had been able to get my hands on a copy of F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night with artwork by Sam Taylor Wood - one of my favourite books beautifully redesigned. (Ignore the strange green lighter somebody photographed it with.) 

Sadly I don't have £100 for a book right now :(

These SS12 boots by Maison Margiela are pretty great, just toe-ing (sorry) the line between incredible and eye-wateringly hideous.

I can imagine Talitha Getty having some similar items in her wardrobe.

RA RA RASPUTIN

Apparently Rasputin means "dissolute". It upsets me that the most villainous haemophilia-curing nun-raping cyanide-immune Siberian is so badly underplayed in his disney incarnation. In "Anastasia" he's essentially a Russian Jafar.


If you're interested there's a really good book about him by Edvard Radzinsky with an amazing section about the "Khlysty", potentially the best religious cult ever. They believed that only after a man had sinned greatly could he be truly repentant and pleasing to God. That basically means nihilism in the name of God, fun times.
